How this works
Each person who leaves costs five things to replace. Hiring = the manager’s hours to post, screen, interview and do the paperwork × the manager’s hourly pay. Out of pocket = what you spend on ads, background checks and uniforms for one hire. Training = the paid side-by-side hours × crew pay × 2, since the new hire and the person training them are both on the clock.
Learning at half speed = the weeks until a new hire keeps up × the hours a week in that spot × crew pay × 0.5: for those weeks you pay a full wage for about half the work. Overtime = the weeks the spot sits open × the same hours × crew pay × 0.5, the extra half of time-and-a-half someone earns covering it.
The year = the people who left in the last 12 months × the cost of one. Count everyone you had to replace: quits, firings and people who never came back after a week. Turnover rate = people who left ÷ your usual crew size.
