How this works
Churn is the share of members who leave in a month: members who left during the month ÷ members at its start. Count cancellations and memberships that lapse when a card fails, since both stop paying.
Members lost a month = active members × churn, which is also how many sign-ups a month you need just to stay level. Membership revenue lost = members lost × the average monthly price. The average member stays 1 ÷ churn months and pays the price × that many months over their membership.
The 12-month figures run month by month: each month churn takes its share of the members, then that month’s sign-ups join. With sign-ups, membership levels off where the members leaving each month equal the sign-ups: sign-ups ÷ churn. The lower-churn figures run the same months at the rate you would like to reach; the extra revenue adds the gap between the two, month by month, at your average price.
These are membership dollars only, before any extras members buy, and they assume your price, churn and sign-ups stay as you entered them.
