The one rule everyone learns first

Hazard lights on means a light scare only.

Stay in character and use looks and gestures. Do not touch or enter the vehicle. If the hazards come on during the wash, ease off immediately and tell the next actor.

Hazards on, you may still

  • Stay in character.
  • Use looks and gestures.
  • Keep clear as the car moves through.

Hazards on, you may not

  • Touch the car at all, including the glass
  • Rock or shake it, or pull a door handle
  • Get in, or jump out at them from a blind spot

Scare rules

Approved and forbidden scares.

Approved methods have conditions. Read chapters 5 and 7 before using them.

Approved

  • A flat hand on the glass. No rings, no props, never at the exit.
  • A gentle rock, side to side only, on a stopped car.
  • Looks, gestures and body language. No contact with the vehicle.
  • A soft pull on an unlocked handle. Locked means move on.
  • A ride along, only when a manager approved that specific car.

Forbidden

  • Hitting or punching a vehicle, including a slap on the roof.
  • Touching wipers, mirrors, aerials or trim.
  • Banging a prop against paint.
  • Scaring a moving car.
  • Touching a guest. Anywhere on the property, no exceptions.

When it goes wrong, the E-stop comes first. Before you look closer, before you find a manager, before you decide whether it is serious. Nobody is ever in trouble for stopping the tunnel.
